10 actual Indian actors who could’ve played Khan Noonien Singh instead of Benedict Cumberbatch: Sendhil Ramamurthy, Naveen Andrews, Sacha Dhawan, Kal Penn, John Abraham, Hrithik Roshan, Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal, Aamir Khan, Kabir Bedi (who should’ve been the original Khan anyway)

LOVE STAR TREK.

Hate the movie isn’t using a brown person for Khan. D:

I love Benedict Cumberbatch, I think he did a phenomenal job in the film but there was to no real reason for him to be Khan. They took out Khan’s entire back story and in essence what makes Khan Khan. The writers and Abrams could have simply made Cumberbatch a different villain from Star Trek canon (I personally think Cumberbatch would have been amazing as Gary Mitchell) or even made him a non-canon character like Nero since they re-booted the entire timeline.

But no Abrams wanted Khan, but he couldn’t cast an Indian actor as Khan because I his stupid fucking mystery box theory. Casting an Indian actor would have totally given away that the villain was Khan and Abrams believes that the audience should go into the theatre with as little knowledge as possible.

So Abrams goes for the cheap thrills of Khan because he knows Khan is the most notable villain in Star Trek canon. But then gets rid of everything that made Khan a notable villain and reduces him to a simple superhuman who can punch really hard. Khan character is so water downed the writers made Spock call Spock Prime to explain to the audience how much of threat Khan actually is. All because of Abrams and his mystery box theory which wouldn’t allow him to cast an Indian in the role ergo leaving no choice but to completely disgard Khan backstory. Leaving the the audience with a super strong, super smart cookie cutter villain.

to this day, I think Azula is probably one of the most interesting villains. Ever.

Honestly, this scene made me feel choked up, because Azula obviously craved her Mother’s love, like Zuko had, but because she was so much more taken under her Father’s ‘wing’ as it were, she became a twisted version of who she would have been.

And this scene. This fucking scene.

Just take a step back and think:

  • Her Mother is a hallucination here.
  • Azula is bitterly saying ‘Even you fear me.’ And back at Ember Island, you learn that, even though she was a tiny terror, she was hurt because her Mother was scared of her.
  • And the one thing that breaks Azula is the fact that a part of her knows exactly what her Mother would say. And she’d tell her she loves her.
  • And she wouldn’t be angry, or disappointed. She’d be sad.
